Nasiah and Scott began working together on the Board of the Illinois Association for Behavior Analysis, partnering to create a more inclusive and equitable environment in the Illinois behavior analytic community.
When George Floyd was killed, while many organizations were pledging to work with government and law enforcement, we saw the need for self-reflection on our own participation in systemic racism and inequality.
The seeds of P2I were planted when we hosted a conversation about race, where we publicly discussed things that Black and White people don’t usually say to each other. The feedback we got from that first conversation was that hearing those topics addressed publicly and authentically made a difference.
In our second conversation, we focused less on talking to each other, and more on creating space for others to have these conversations. Seeing the difference this made for people, by our third workshop we made the choice to partner in working with organizations to provide space for people to be welcomed and included for who they are.
We founded inquiry, inc in August 2020, with a commitment to help organizations move toward equity, diversity, and inclusion.
In carrying out this work, our lived-experience has taught us that while our work includes equity, diversity, and inclusion, it is bigger than that: it is the work of human dignity, where all people are affirmed, valued, and honored for their contributions.
The language of diversity, equity and inclusion carries with it a certain baggage - a general orientation toward a hope that you can have an upset free organization.
You can’t run an upset free business. As you grow, your business will take you and your team to new places, and going new places is, by nature, upsetting.
The work of dignity centers around navigating upsets powerfully, restoring and building relationships through the affirmation and valuing of everyone’s unique contribution.
People show up in life (wherever they show up) and know in their bones they belong. They’re supported and supporting, finding self in an ever expanding sense of community. People see each other and recognize each other as human beings first, and in that recognition talk about, celebrate, and honor our differences.
In this world, people are living life pushing past the edge of comfort, growing and cultivating this sense of community and connectedness, and finding aliveness in that growth.
This is what we bring to your organization.
